Pads OK, Rotors too? Why?
IMHO Rotors should last three changes of pads - unless of course you
ground the pads down to nothing and thus badly scored the rotors.

My 1984 Merc 280e sort of judders as it comes to a halt. No problem
stopping, just a sort of grabbing as it comes to a halt. Any ideas
anyone?

Although I have no idea what juddering is, this could be many
things... Rotors which are out of round are a first guess.
Do you feel any side to side wiggling when this happens?
Try stopping with the emergency brake only and see if that does the
same thing. If so then it`s a problem with the rear wheels and it`s
not related to hydraulics.
